KNITS

Powerhouse
Junior Year

Powerhouse is a collection created to make a splash. It is a source of influence for both color and trend inspiration. Our market is for women who are leaders in fashion and their day-to-day lives. They are sources of overflowing energy and drive. They want to stand out and show off one of a kind, powerful pieces of apparel. Each look is individual to the girl and shows off her own style, yet the pieces work as a collection to demonstrate attitude and spunk. Each knit piece is an original whole garment design brought to life with bold pops of color and layered on top of white denim. The digital prints are a blend of graffiti style drawing techniques. Alongside the knit and denim fabrics, there are details of hand tied fringe and white hexagon mesh. Powerhouse is an over the top brand meant to unleash identity and strengthen inner power. This collection proudly won second place in the intermediate division of the NC State Fashion Expose Show.

Engineered Identity
Junior Year

Engineered Identity is a hip sweater set  created and whole garment knitted using the APEX Shima Seiki System. The top and pants were then dyed using Huntsman Solophenyl Bordeaux 3BLE direct dye and reactive printed with a geometric design drawn using Adobe Illustrator. Lastly, a center piece woven on a AVU Compu-Dobby Loom was sewn on.

Ice Queen
Junior Year

This Ice Queen is sporting a sleeveless turtleneck sweater knitted using Shima Seiki software. The front  contains a center placed design with both links links and cable patterns which are then reversed on the back. The sweater was dyed a frigid blue color and boasts a voluminous fringe collar of hand tied novelty yarns. It is a perfect piece to layer under a cute cardigan for a cold winter day.

Arcadia takes us back to the golden age of today’s multi-billion dollar worldwide video game market. In the early 1970s, we saw the establishment of the arcade gameroom and the beginning of the digital out-of-home entertainment industry. Video games started to pop up in restaurants, supermarkets, bowling alleys, and skate rinks. These local spots were hubs for hoards of teenagers eager to beat the next level. Throughout this time, game makers brought to life stories that tested player’s skills, timing, and hand-eye coordination. With crisp lines and unique settings, we were forever introduced to games like Pac-Man, Asteroids, and Donkey Kong. My collection exhibits bold graphic shapes that produce movement and subtle hints at mazework. The overlapping lines and patterns are reminiscent of the detailed design found in the most popular games. While the concept originates with teens, my consumer is someone a little older who is in the early stages of employment in a career that is innovative and energized. They have an eye for quirky, fun pieces and have a carefree, adventurous nature about them. Their job is hands-on, intense, and imaginative, often causing them to take breaks to play ping-pong or pool in their office space. These pillows can be arranged together on a couch, or work individually to bring character to a chair. Either way they produce a playful atmosphere and create energy in a normal workplace environment. Arcadia was produced using four color jacquard knitting on a Shima Seiki SRY Machine using 100% 60/2 cotton yarn with colors Pulp, Piglet, Lime Ice, and Jade.
